Covid Stress is crazy right now! It is an underlying stress that is just out there circling us whether we are aware of it or not. People are grinding their teeth, clenching their jaw and holding their breath without even realizing it. Alternate Nostril Breathing is an excellent was to try and neutralize that stress and just reset the mind and body. Try it 1-3 times a day. Here are some instructions and pictures to help you through it.
1.Sit comfortably, chest lifted and breathe all your air out through your nose. Close your lips and place your thumb gently on your right nostril and hold it closed..
2.Breathe into your abdomen through just your left nostril, filling your abdomen first, then your chest, trying to breath in for a count of 3. Keep your eyes on the horizon.
3.When you have inhaled as much as you can, pinch your nose closed with your thumb and ring finger. Hold and retain the air for 5 seconds.
4.Release your thumb, holding the left nostril closed with your ring finger. Exhale all your air out through the right nostril for a count of 7.
5.Inhale through the right nostril while holding the left nostril closed with your ring finger. Inhale for a count of 3 and then pinch both nostrils closed and retain the air for 5 seconds.
6.Keep your right nostril closed with your thumb and exhale through the left nostril for a count of 7. Repeat this sequence 6-10 times.
1. Balances both hemispheres of the brain.
2. Brings effectiveness and calmness.
3. Alters the mental state.
4. Excellent way to relax you when you feel anxious.
5. Good as a daily practice.
If this seems like too much, you can also just take a few super deep breaths a few times a day in the middle of whatever you are doing. If you are washing the dishes, simply inhale for a count of 3, hold for a count of 3 and exhale for a count of 3. Do this a few times a day during your activities of daily living.
