Is MSG Making Your Pants Tight?

by | Aug 31, 2021

Struggling to Lose Weight and Can’t….Maybe it’s all those other horrible chemicals that have a “biochemical effect” on your body and not the number of calories you are eating.

Counting calories is always the weight loss avenue of choice for the mainstream diet companies such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, but honestly, the old adage, you are what you eat is more important than counting calories. If you eat 1,600 calories a day but those calories come from a poor source laden with MSG, aspartame, and soy lecithin, you may only get bigger and feel worse.

This post is all about MSG, which has been found to be a culprit in numerous health issues.

Top 5 Reasons You Should Not Eat MSG

1. It’s a neurotoxin that can amplify underlying issues such as Parkinson’s disease, migraines, diabetes, epilepsy, fibromyalgia to name a few

2. Causes obesity

3. Causes vitamin deficiency

4. Causes liver issues

5. Causes Hypoglycemia

These are just 5 out of at least 20 reasons not to eat MSG.

MSG has never been my friend, it sends me literally running to the toilet if I eat it. I know instantly when a meal I am eating out has this ingredient. My guts gurgle and my feet get moving to the toilet.

Many of you may have heard of MSG and look for it when eating Chinese food as oftentimes that is their stable additive to keep meats fresh and foods tasting good. But did you know MSG is found everywhere!!!! I mean everywhere.

What is MSG You Ask?

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups, and processed meats. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that’s “generally recognized as safe,” but its use remains controversial. For this reason, when MSG is added to food, the FDA requires that it be listed on the label.”

GRAS, generally regarded as safe, is the FDA’s way of being lazy and placing shelf life over human life every single time. MSG is not safe, nor are so many ingredients that fall under GRAS, but that is a blog for another time.

MSG is a neurotoxic substance and even if a product says “no added MSG” it can still be laden with this neurotoxin.

According to MSG Truth, MSG stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin, which increases hunger.

What Happens Then?

Insulin levels triple within 15 minutes of ingestion and blood sugar drops. So much focus is placed on eating foods low on the glycemic index to avoid insulin spikes in your body….but what about MSG? It is far more dangerous than high-carb meals.

Here’s where it gets really tricky figuring out which foods contain MSG, as many foods will say no MSG added…but the manufacturer or restaurant has added ingredients that contain MSG. Let’s take a look at common foods that contain MSG.

What Exactly Does MSG Do To Our Bodies?

MSG causes the body to release insulin which leads to a blood sugar drop causing the person to feel hungry again and eat more of the nasty fast food laden with MSG.

MSG also generates a food “rush” by enhancing the taste of food, increasing our pleasure in eating that food, and making us want more and more. McDonald’s French fries do this time and time again. This actually creates an addictive behavior to food. No wonder you keep going back for more, right? Research has shown it can produce the same addictive patterns as cocaine!!! This can lead to compulsive eating and obesity. We are a fast-food nation, so educate your friends, family, and children so they can live a healthy and fulfilling life.

When you are shopping, read those labels and look for anything you cannot pronounce and especially look for the following ingredients which also contain MSG:

Maltodextrin

Dextrose

Carrageenan

Citric acid – yes this is a horrible ingredient and doesn’t even come from citrus. Stay tuned for a future blog on this toxic ingredient.

Casein

Accent®

Ajinomoto®

Autolyzed yeast

Beet extract

Fish sauce

Umami

Seaweed

You are what you eat and what you eat will dictate how you feel. Be kind to your body and fill it full of nourishing chemical-free foods that help you and your loved ones thrive.
